- compendiums → collections of facts from sources
- thoughts → questions and ideas for research
- ontologies → bite-sized pieces of papers. answer the thoughts in more detail. whereas a paper will cover multiple ontologies (e.g. my thesis!), ontologies are both deep and restricted
- pick a topic or question from your thoughts note
- comb through compendium for gathering facts
