Common mechanisms underlying psychopathology
It’s likely that Trauma is the root of psychopathology and that common mechanism result in the emergence or manifestation of psychiatric disorders. Some common factors include:
- Putatively high comorbidity (Maj2005)
- Poor reliability of diagnoses across diagnosing clinicians (Richieri2011)
- Absence of specific/reliable biomarkers for diagnoses (Venkatasubramanian2016)
- Same category of drugs can be used to treat a number of diff. disorders (Kramer1994, Whitaker2010)
Carhart-Harris2019a takes the view that most, if not all, expressions of mental illness can be traced to aberrations in hierarchical predictive coding.
