Brain activity is dynamic

Most previous work on global neuronal activity in the brain has focused on static functional connectivity and similar measures, which examine brain activity over a long period of time.
Recent research indicates that:
- Spatiotemporal dynamics represent the common currency between mind and brain
- Recent work with dynamic functional connectivity has demonstrated dynamic sub-states in brain activity with switching behavior (Allen2014, Demertzi2019, Fukushima2018, Lurie2018, Preti2017, Shine2016).
Dynamic substates dominated by brain integration and segregation have relevance for consciousness
- Predominantly integrated states show shared reductions in complexity following loss of consciousness (Luppi2019)\
Several properties of dynamic functional brain networks are sensitive to pharmacological perturbation (Barttfeld2015, Demertzi2019, Hutchison2014, Lord2019, Luppi2019)
