Origin of neuromodulators
Key neuromodulatory molecules, dopamine, serotonin, and noradrenaline are produced in specific regions — the ventral tegmental area, dorsal raphe nuclei, and locus coeruleus, respectively.
Other chemicals, like glutamate and GABA, are synthesized throughout the brain and are used for fast transport.
