The starting point for any statistical analysis is to define your null and alternative hypotheses.

Typically, that is something to do with the means. For example, if you have four groups:

$H_0:{\mu }_1={\mu }_2={\mu }_3={\mu }_4$
$H_A:$ not all ${\mu }_i$ are equal
