Group dependency in statistical analysis
Independent groups → subjects in one group do not provide information about subjects in another group.
- Each group contains different subjects
- Between-subject effects
Dependent groups → subjects do provide information about subjects in other groups. Either they are the same set, or different subjects that have been paired meaningfully.
- Crossover/counter-balanced design
- Matched pairs (e.g. age/sex)
- Within-subject effects
