T1 Weighted

  • Differences in T1 relaxation times of tissues
  • Relies on longitudinal relaxation
    • Not all tissues return to equilibrium in the same amount of time, and T1 reflects the amount of time taken for protons’ spins to reliagn with the main magnetic field.
  • Tends to have short echo time (TE) and repetition time (TR) times
  • Fat quickly realigns longitudinal magnetization with so it appears bright on a T1w image, while water has much slower longitudinal magnetization realignment and has a lwoer signal.
