DEFINITION
The region within the entire visual field that elicits an action potential for a given neuron. Neurons respond best to a subset of stimuli within their receptive field, a property called neuronal tuning.
In earlier visual areas, neurons have simpler tuning, which becomes increasingly complex throughout the striate and extrastriate areas of the visual cortex.
