Omega-3 fatty acids

This includes DHA, EPA, and other unspecific -3-polyunsaturated fatty acids.

In nature, most are bound in triaglycerides (TAG) whereas in most isolated fish oils EPA and DHA are bound in ethyl esters (EE) or re-esterified TAG (rTAG). Can also be bound in phospholipids (PL).

  • rTAG is slightly more bioavailable than TAG and EE
  • PL significantly more bioavailable than TAG, rTAG, and EE. Generally extracted from krill.
