Whole-brain models generate directionality

whole-brain models allow for the examination of directional effects between brain regions by fitting functional connectivity (or nonreversibility) to the underlying structural connectivity derived by diffusion tensor imaging. Because DTI measures the directionality of water molecules, and allows us to reconstruct the connectome, fitting functional connectivity to it gives us a way of estimating what directional interactions might look like within functional brain dynamics.

Q&A

Why do whole-brain models generate directionality?

{{c1:: The connectome derived from DTI has directionality because it measures the movement of water molecules}}
