Reducing valve theory of consciousness

A metaphorical theory of consciousness, first presented in Aldous Huxley’s Doors of Perception, that argues that the role of the brain is to constrain its experience of the world in order to interact effectively. Huxley argues that if one were able to perceive all of the incoming sensory stimuli in their conscious experience at once, that it would be impossible to do anything.

The reducing valve theory of consciousness, though metaphorical and ill-defined, bears strong resemblance to the Free energy principle by Karl Friston.
